Decking Screws fasten suitable outdoor deck boards, fence boards and garden trellis components to timber supports. Their wood-engaging threads and pointed tips support controlled installation, while the material or protective coating must be selected for the exposure and timber treatment. This range concerns board and non-structural component fastening, not load-rated deck framing, ledger or guardrail connections.

For preservative-treated timber, confirm the treatment chemistry and the fastener coating or stainless steel grade required by the timber supplier. An ordinary interior zinc finish must not be assumed suitable for outdoor decking. Coastal, poolside and persistently wet sites need an exposure-specific corrosion assessment. Composite boards require a compatible composite-decking screw and the board manufacturer installation instructions; a standard timber deck screw is not automatically suitable and can damage the surface.

Drive with a Drill/Driver or, where the screw manufacturer permits, an Impact Driver using the exact matching bit. Common drive choices include #2 square and Torx-type star recesses; confirm the actual bit size on the selected screw. A self-tapping tip does not guarantee no pre-drilling: hardwood, board ends and some composite systems require pilot holes. Follow the board specification for edge distance, spacing, penetration and seating depth, and avoid overdriving or stripping the recess.
