Product Information
Structural Wood Screws are engineered timber fasteners selected for load-bearing wood connections such as timber frames, beam and post reinforcement and deck substructures. Their screw geometry, material properties and head-bearing design are intended for structural fastening rather than ordinary board fixing. Selection must be based on technical data for the exact supplied model, including shear and withdrawal resistance, timber type, penetration, spacing and load direction.
Self-tapping structural screw designs can reduce installation work and may be driven without pre-drilling in the timber and conditions covered by their installation instructions. Dense timber, small edge distances or particular engineered wood products may require different preparation. Follow the specified procedure; do not assume that adding or omitting a pilot hole leaves the published design values unchanged. Partially and fully threaded designs serve different connection functions and must be selected against the actual joint.
Some evaluated structural screws can replace specified lag screws or bolts in defined connections. Replacement is not a universal one-for-one rule: use model-specific load tables or an approved design, with the required screw quantity, length, angle and spacing. Install with a compatible Impact Driver where permitted, or a suitable high-torque Drill/Driver and matching bit, following the specified speed and head seating. Confirm coating compatibility for preservative-treated timber and outdoor exposure. Load tables, evaluation reports and any claimed certifications must be confirmed for the supplied model before structural use; this page does not establish a load rating or third-party approval.
Features & Benefits
- STRUCTURAL TIMBER APPLICATIONS - For specified timber-frame, beam and post connections and deck substructures.
- MODEL-SPECIFIC PERFORMANCE - Match shear, withdrawal and head-bearing data to the supplied screw and joint.
- SELF-TAPPING DESIGN - No-pre-drill installation where covered by the selected model instructions.
- CONNECTION-MATCHED THREAD - Confirm full or partial thread, penetration and head style for the intended load path.
- DEFINED REPLACEMENT OPTIONS - Lag-screw or bolt substitution requires a documented connection design.
