Product Information

Flooring Cleat Nails are 15.5-16 gauge L-cleat or T-cleat fasteners used for blind nailing through the tongue of solid hardwood flooring and compatible nail-down engineered flooring. The cleat profile and ribbed or serrated shank create positive engagement in an approved wood subfloor while keeping the fixing hidden after the next board is fitted.

L-cleats have an L-shaped head profile, while T-cleats use a T-shaped head. Both styles are designed for dedicated flooring nailers, but they are not automatically interchangeable. The correct gauge, cleat profile, length and drive plate must match the flooring nailer, board thickness, flooring manufacturer's instructions and subfloor construction.

A dedicated pneumatic Flooring Nailer is recommended for consistent angled placement through the tongue without damaging the board face. These cleats are not intended for floating or click-lock floors, concrete-only substrates, face nailing finished surfaces, or use in framing and finish nailers that are not approved for the selected cleat format.

Features & Benefits

  • 15.5-16 GA FLOORING CLEATS - Sized for compatible professional flooring nailers and nail-down timber flooring systems.
  • L-CLEAT OR T-CLEAT OPTIONS - Select the head profile required by the flooring nailer and installation specification.
  • ENHANCED SUBFLOOR ENGAGEMENT - Ribbed or serrated cleat geometry helps resist withdrawal from approved wood substrates.
  • CONCEALED TONGUE FASTENING - Driven at an angle through the tongue so the fixing is covered by the next flooring board.
  • SOLID AND ENGINEERED FLOORING - Suitable for solid hardwood and only those engineered boards approved for nail-down installation.
  • PNEUMATIC FLOORING NAILER READY - Designed for controlled depth and positioning with a compatible dedicated flooring tool.

FAQs

Sourcing questions, samples, MOQ, packing & shipping.

What are flooring cleat nails used for?
They are used for blind nailing through the tongue of solid hardwood flooring and compatible engineered flooring into an approved wood subfloor.
What is the difference between L-cleats and T-cleats?
L-cleats have an L-shaped head profile and T-cleats have a T-shaped head. Both can provide strong flooring engagement, but the required profile depends on the flooring nailer and installation specification.
Are L-cleats and T-cleats interchangeable?
Not necessarily. Always match the gauge, head profile, cleat length and strip format to the flooring nailer model, drive plate and flooring manufacturer's instructions.
Can flooring cleats be used with engineered flooring?
Only when the engineered flooring manufacturer approves nail-down installation. Board construction, thickness, tongue design and subfloor requirements must all be checked first.
What tool is required for flooring cleat nails?
Use a dedicated pneumatic Flooring Nailer configured for the selected 15.5-16 ga L-cleat or T-cleat. Standard framing, finish and brad nailers are not substitutes unless specifically approved.
What information is needed for a quotation?
Please provide gauge, L-cleat or T-cleat profile, length, nailer model or compatibility reference, strip format, finish, packing style, quantity and destination market.
