Product Information

Cut Flooring Nails, also called Cut Nails, are traditional hand-driven fasteners used for solid hardwood flooring, restoration of older floorboards and period-style woodworking. Unlike round wire nails, they have a tapered rectangular or wedge-shaped shank that develops strong mechanical engagement in suitable timber.

The broad faces and wedge profile provide high resistance to withdrawal, making cut flooring nails useful where traditional appearance, repair compatibility and firm board retention are required. Head style, shank dimensions and length should be selected for the flooring thickness, fixing detail, subfloor or joist and the appearance required after installation.

Cut flooring nails are installed with a hand hammer. Pre-drilling a correctly sized pilot hole is recommended in dense hardwood, brittle aged boards and positions close to board ends or edges to help reduce splitting. Nail orientation and pilot-hole size should follow the flooring or restoration specification. These loose cut nails are not pneumatic L-cleats or T-cleats and are not intended for concrete or metal fastening.

Features & Benefits

  • WEDGE-SHAPED CUT SHANK - Tapered rectangular geometry creates strong mechanical engagement in suitable timber.
  • HIGH PULL-OUT RESISTANCE - Broad shank faces help resist withdrawal in traditional hardwood flooring and repair work.
  • TRADITIONAL FLOORING FORMAT - Suitable for period-style installations, old floorboard restoration and compatible solid timber work.
  • HAND-DRIVEN INSTALLATION - Designed for controlled installation with a Claw Hammer or suitable flooring hammer.
  • PILOT HOLE RECOMMENDED - Pre-drill dense, brittle or edge-positioned boards to help reduce splitting and surface damage.
  • LOOSE CUT NAIL FORMAT - Distinct from collated pneumatic L-cleats, T-cleats, finish nails and framing nails.

FAQs

Sourcing questions, samples, MOQ, packing & shipping.

What are cut flooring nails used for?
They are used for traditional solid hardwood flooring, restoration of older floorboards and period-style woodworking where a hand-driven wedge-shaped fastener is appropriate.
Why do cut nails resist pulling out?
Their tapered rectangular shank and broad faces create strong mechanical engagement in suitable timber, providing higher withdrawal resistance than many comparable smooth round wire nails.
Should pilot holes be drilled for cut flooring nails?
Pilot holes are recommended in dense hardwood, brittle aged boards and locations near board ends or edges. The pilot-hole size should suit the nail and restoration specification.
Are cut flooring nails the same as L-cleats or T-cleats?
No. Cut flooring nails are loose wedge-shaped nails installed by hand. L-cleats and T-cleats are collated flooring fasteners designed for compatible pneumatic flooring nailers.
Can cut nails be used for modern engineered flooring?
Only if the flooring manufacturer and installation design specifically permit that fastener. Many engineered, floating and click-lock floors require a different fixing method.
What information is needed for a quotation?
Please provide shank dimensions, nail length, head profile, finish, flooring or restoration application, packing style, order quantity and destination market.
