Product Information

Sheet Metal Screws join compatible thin metal sheets and secure metal trim, corner angles and ventilation duct components where the assembly specification permits screw fixing. This range focuses on sharp-point self-tapping screws with spaced threads. A common head option is the hex washer head, which combines an external hex drive with an integral bearing flange. Confirm the head style and drive against the selected sample; an integral metal washer head is not a sealing gasket.

Self-tapping describes a screw that forms or cuts its mating thread in a suitable prepared hole. A sharp point is not the same as a drill point. For this range, prepare a drilled or punched pilot hole sized for the exact screw, sheet material and thickness, unless the selected fastener is specifically approved for self-piercing in that material. Self-drilling screws with fluted drill points are a separate specification. Select diameter, length and point type for the total sheet stack and required thread engagement, and confirm suitability by the fastener data and representative assembly testing.

Use a Drill/Driver with a correctly fitting nut driver for an external hex head, or a matching screwdriver or bit for a recessed-drive variant. Align and support the sheets, keep the tool square, and use controlled torque to seat the head without stripping the thin sheet or deforming the joint. Specify material and finish to match the metals being joined and the service environment; ordinary zinc plating is not a universal exterior or marine protection specification. Duct sealing, fixing spacing and restrictions on projecting screw points must follow the relevant duct or equipment instructions. This generic range does not carry an assumed structural load rating. Send sheet material, thickness, screw dimensions, head, drive, finish, quantity and packing requirements for a wholesale quote.

Features & Benefits

  • THIN-SHEET FIXING - For compatible sheet-metal joints, duct components and metal trim.
  • SHARP-POINT SELF-TAPPING - Spaced threads engage a correctly prepared hole in the specified sheet.
  • HEX WASHER HEAD OPTION - External hex drive and integral bearing flange; not a waterproof seal.
  • MATCHED HOLE PREPARATION - Pilot-hole diameter depends on screw geometry, material and sheet thickness.
  • MATERIAL AND FINISH SELECTION - Confirm metal compatibility and corrosion protection for the environment.
  • WHOLESALE PACKING - Specify pack counts, labels, export cartons and private-label requirements.

FAQs

Sourcing questions, samples, MOQ, packing & shipping.

What are sheet metal screws used for?
They join compatible thin metal sheets and secure metal trim, corner angles and permitted ductwork components. Confirm that the particular assembly allows screw fixing and that the screw specification matches the sheet material and thickness.
Do sharp-point sheet metal screws need a pilot hole?
Prepare a correctly sized drilled or punched hole for the selected sharp-point tapping screw unless it is specifically approved for self-piercing in that material. Hole size depends on the screw geometry and sheet material and thickness, so there is no universal pilot size.
Are self-tapping screws the same as self-drilling screws?
No. Self-tapping describes forming or cutting the mating thread. A self-drilling screw also has a drill point to prepare the hole within its stated capacity. This page focuses on sharp-point tapping screws, not fluted drill-point screws.
Does a hex washer head make a watertight joint?
No. The integral bearing flange spreads head contact over the sheet but is not a sealing gasket. Where sealing is required, use the specified fastener and approved sealing arrangement. Follow duct or equipment instructions.
Which tool and finish should I select?
Use a Drill/Driver with a matching nut driver for an external hex head. Recessed-drive variants need the correct screwdriver or bit. Control torque to avoid stripping the sheet. Select material and finish for metal compatibility and exposure; standard zinc plating is not a universal exterior or marine specification.
What information is needed for a bulk order?
Send sheet materials and thicknesses, total stack, screw diameter and length, tapping-point type, head and drive, material and finish, quantity, pack counts and label requirements. Identify any required standards or test documents. Samples, availability, MOQ and lead time are confirmed at quotation.
