Product Information

Oval Wire Nails, also called Oval Head Nails, are traditional woodworking nails commonly used in UK and Australian carpentry and DIY ranges. Their oval wire section is designed to displace less timber across the grain than a comparable round nail when installed in the correct orientation.

For reduced splitting risk, the long axis of the oval shank should be aligned parallel with the wood grain before driving. This makes oval wire nails useful for traditional joinery, timber trim, repair work and other hand-nailed wood applications, especially near narrower timber edges where careful orientation matters.

The visible oval head provides a practical surface for controlled driving with a Claw Hammer and allows the nail to be pulled later when access, adjustment or disassembly may be required. These nails are for general and traditional woodworking; they are not concrete nails, metal-structure fasteners or a substitute for engineered structural connectors.

Features & Benefits

  • OVAL WIRE SECTION - Oval shank geometry can reduce timber displacement across the grain when correctly oriented.
  • HELPS REDUCE SPLITTING - Install with the long axis parallel to the wood grain, especially near narrow timber edges.
  • VISIBLE OVAL HEAD - Provides a practical hammering surface and can remain accessible for later nail removal.
  • TRADITIONAL WOODWORKING USE - Suitable for joinery, timber trim, repairs and general hand-nailed carpentry.
  • CLAW HAMMER INSTALLATION - Designed for controlled manual driving and convenient pulling when adjustment is needed.
  • NON-SPECIALIST STRUCTURAL USE - Not intended for concrete, metal structures or engineered load-critical connections.

FAQs

Sourcing questions, samples, MOQ, packing & shipping.

What are oval wire nails used for?
They are used for traditional joinery, timber trim, repair work and general hand-nailed woodworking where reducing splitting and retaining access to the nail head are useful.
How do oval wire nails help reduce wood splitting?
The oval shank displaces less timber across the grain when its long axis is aligned parallel with the wood grain. Correct orientation is important and does not eliminate every risk of splitting.
Which direction should an oval wire nail face?
Position the long axis of the oval shank parallel to the direction of the wood grain before driving the nail.
Can oval head nails be removed?
Yes. Their visible head can usually be gripped with the claw of a Claw Hammer, making them useful where later adjustment or disassembly may be required.
Are oval wire nails structural fasteners?
They are general traditional woodworking nails, not engineered structural connectors. They should not be specified for concrete, metal structures or load-critical joints without an approved design.
What information is needed for a quotation?
Please provide nail diameter, length, finish, packing style, order quantity, destination market and any reference photo or sample requirement.
